I hope you're enjoying the book, Claudie. My ex-honey, who now lives in a large metropolitan West Coast city, made me very jealous the other day when she told me about how she got to see Tom Robbins live at a "book event." It wasn't a typical book-signing event because he signed all the books beforehand. To get into the event, which was held in a theater used for plays and small concerts and stand-up comedy, one merely had to purchase a signed book. The theater has 674 seats and the event sold out before my ex-honey and her honey could buy a book to get in. She was highly disappointed but learned that there was a line forming for "standing room only."

So they stood in that line while everyone who bought books went inside and took their seats. Then about 100 people in the "standing room only" line were let in for free to stand in the back of the theater. The stage was a long way away so they didn't get to see Tom Robbins up close and personal but they did get to listen to him talk for almost two hours. After a brief introductory talk, Tom Robbins then fielded questions from the audience for the remainder of the event. According to my ex, he was extremely funny and he "talks a lot like he writes."

Man was I ever jealous! How I would have loved to be there. I guess I'm living in the wrong part of the country for those opportunities to come up. Tom Robbins, by the way, will be turning 75 in July.

Even though I have never seen him I have heard his voice before. If anyone ever wants to hear Tom Robbins speak just watch the movie version of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. He's the narrator in that movie. Tom Robbins also once had a cameo part in a movie. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the movie but it was a time-travel movie starring Matthew Broderick who played a trumpet player who had been a jazz musician in a previous life.
